Being Led by the Spirit
John 16:7-13 NKJ
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go
away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I
depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will
convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of
sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I
go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the
ruler of this world is judged. I still have many things to say to you, but
you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has
come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own
authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you
things to come.”
Benefits of Following the Voice of God:
- You make better decisions in life.
- You choose better relationships in life.
- You know things before they happen.
- You live a life of freedom.
- You begin to operate in the supernatural!
1 Corinthians 2:9-12 NLT
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared
for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these
things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows
us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except
that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except
God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s
spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
Three Ways You Know Things:
- Perceptual Knowledge: (Body) Eyes, ears, observation – senses
- Conceptual Knowledge: (Mind) Reason, intellect
- Spiritual Knowledge: (Spirit) Revelation given by the Holy Spirit
“When you receive the Holy Spirit you gain entry into the mind and
will of God!”
Romans 8:14 NIV
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
The primary way God speaks to us is through an INWARD VOICE.
Two Checkpoints to Know God Is Speaking:
- The Word of God
- Godly Counsel
Positioning Yourself to Hear God:
- Humble yourself.
1 Peter 5:5-6 NIV
In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your
elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another,
because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the HUMBLE.”
HUMBLE yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he
may lift you up in due time.
Ways to Demonstrate Humility:
- Read the Word
- Pray
- Worship
- Seek counsel
- Keep your heart pure.
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your
life. - Obey when He speaks.
1 Samuel 15:22 NLT
But Samuel replied, “WHAT IS MORE PLEASING TO THE LORD:
your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your OBEDIENCE TO HIS
VOICE? Listen! OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE, and
submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”
