Four Cups: Salvation—Freedom—Restoration—Fulfillment
EXODUS 12:1-11 NIV
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, “This month is to be for
you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole
community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to
take a lamb for his family, one for each household. If any household
is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest
neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are.
You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with
what each person will eat. The animals you choose must be year-old
males WITHOUT DEFECT, and you may take them from the sheep
or the goats. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month,
when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them
at twilight. Then they are to take some of THE BLOOD and put it on
the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat
the lambs. That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the
fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. Do not eat
the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head,
legs and internal organs. Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is
left till morning, you must burn it. This is how you are to eat it: with
your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your
staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’S PASSOVER.”
EXODUS 12:12-13 NIV
“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every
firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all
the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. THE BLOOD WILL BE A SIGN FOR
YOU ON THE HOUSES WHERE YOU ARE, AND WHEN I SEE THE
BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU. NO DESTRUCTIVE PLAGUE
WILL TOUCH YOU WHEN I STRIKE EGYPT.”
LUKE 22:7-16 NIV
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover
lamb had to be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go
and make preparations for us to eat the PASSOVER.” “Where do you
want us to prepare it?” they asked. He replied, “As you enter the city,
a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house
that he enters, and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks:
Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my
disciples?’ He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished.
Make preparations there.” They left and found things just as Jesus
had told them. So they prepared the Passover. When the hour came,
Jesus and his apostles reclined at THE TABLE. And he said to them,
“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
For I tell you, I will not eat it again until IT FINDS FULFILLMENT IN
THE KINGDOM OF GOD.”
LUKE 22:17-20 NIV
After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it
among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine
until the kingdom of God comes.” AND HE TOOK THE BREAD,
GAVE THANKS AND BROKE IT, AND GAVE IT TO THEM, saying,
“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the
same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “THIS CUP IS
THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD, WHICH IS POURED OUT
FOR YOU.”
ISAIAH 53:5 NKJV
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our
iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His
stripes WE ARE HEALED.
EXODUS 12:13 NIV
“The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and
WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU. NO
DESTRUCTIVE PLAGUE WILL TOUCH YOU WHEN I STRIKE
EGYPT.”
JOHN 3:3 NIV
… “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless
they are BORN AGAIN.”
