21-Day Fast 2023 – Day 2

Pause

Before reading Jesus’s words below, pause. Invite God into this moment. Express your gratitude, thanking Him for the good things He has done in your life. Invite Him to speak to you as you read and reflect on the following portion of The Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5:13-16 NIV

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”


Walk with God

What is God highlighting for you in this passage of scripture?

Our works do not and cannot earn us a relationship with God, but out of a relationship with Him, the “good deeds” He leads us to do bring Him glory! Keep your eyes and heart open throughout your day and be ready to act when the opportunity arises.

Pray for courage to do what honors God, especially when it would be easier to do something else, then trust Him as opportunities are presented. Let today’s scripture encourage you: “…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
