Sermon Notes

1 Samuel 17:26 NIV

“What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

1 Samuel 17:29 KJV

“Is there not a cause?”

We live in a society where people care deeply about things that don’t matter, and they don’t care at all about things that do matter!

We need to stop fighting WITH our family, and we need to start fighting FOR our family!

Nehemiah 4:14 ESV

And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and FIGHT for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Who Are We Fighting?

We’re Fighting the Devil

“If you don’t know how to do warfare with the devil, he will slither in, cause chaos, slither back out, and you don’t even know you’ve been deviled!” – Jimmy Evans

When Satan is working double time, be in prayer overtime!

Who Are We Fighting?

We’re Fighting the Culture

Malachi 2:15-16 NLT

Guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”

Who Are We Fighting?

We’re Fighting the Sinful Nature

Mark 7:21-23 NIV

“For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”

How Do We Fight for our Families?

1) It Starts with Me and Jesus

The best way to fight for my family is to surrender to Jesus.

1 John 4:19 NLT

We love each other because He loved us first.

The best marriage isn’t two people pursuing one another. The best marriage begins with two people pursuing Jesus!

Zechariah 4:6 NIV

“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty.

How Do We Fight for our Families?

2) We Fight Together

Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT

‘A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.’

How Do We Fight for our Families?

3) We Fight with Framily

We come from all different types of parenting situations—married, single moms or dads, blended families, and more. Whatever your family dynamic, we can look to the Word of God for the instruction, wisdom and hope we need to raise godly men and women. You, our Victory family, asked some great questions about how to lead your kids and propel them into their purpose, so we came together to help answer them. Check out part five of Family-ish!
