21-Day Fast 2023 – Day 13
Pause
What’s on your mind today? If anything has been consuming your thoughts, if anything has you worried or anxious, entrust it to God.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Before approaching our Sermon on the Mount verses for today, take time to set your concerns before God, pray over them, and receive His peace.
Reset
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Walk with God
Read through today’s passage once more, and ask God to give you understanding.
What parts stand out to you? Did God highlight any words or verses more than others?
Something to note is that, in the days of Jesus saying this, to say “If your eyes are healthy” was a reference to being generous. With that in mind, does anything from that section stand out to you differently?
What would you say about your own approach to generosity? What about your devotion to God compared to your devotion to money? How would God answer those same questions? Be vulnerable and ask Him. Invite Him into this moment. Pray, listen, and respond to His leadings.
